Fly High

Hello friends and followers!  My apologies for being absent for almost a month.  I've been on vacation.  The DH and I were gone two and a half weeks, enjoying a cruise on the Baltic Sea and visiting such exciting ports of call as Tallin, Estonia, Keil, Germany, Stockholm, Sweden, St. Petersburg, Russia, Helsinki, Finland and Copenhagen, Denmark.  It was an incredible trip and we loved every minute of it.  But now it's time to get back into the swing of things.

I didn't have a lot of time, but I wanted to join in my Funkie design team over at Frilly and Funkie and make a project for Cec's Things with Wings challenge.  I didn't have a plan when I sat down at my craft table so I just started playing around.  I started with a jumbo manila tag fro the shop, stamped it using Jet Black Archival and Wendy Vecchi's Script stamp.  Next I cut a couple of strips of white CS with one of my favorite dies - the Butterfly Frenzy die and glue them randomly over the entire card.  Squeezed Lemon distress stain was then swiped across the entire tag and when that was dry, I brushed on gesso to knock back some of the brightness of the Squeezed Lemon.  Of course, all the edges needed a bit of sponging with Vintage Photo to age it a bit.

I had printed the little tag from Meghan Berry's Lilac and Lavender blog for another project awhile back but never used it.  A small circle was cut from it and used for the bronze bow cabochon (which is actually a brooch, but I ripped the pin back off with pliers).  I layered the cabochon on the tag over the exact spot that the circle was cut from.

Next I got busy with Botanical Remnant Rubs.  They didn't want to stick to the gesso surface.  I had to rub really hard and lift the plastic very carefully when checking to see if they had adhered, going back over them numerous times.  But I finally got them adhered to the tag surface.

My butterfly is from Tim Holtz's Reflections set.  Stamped on white CS with Jet Black archival ink and sponged with Tattered Rose DI, then sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang Wild Honeysuckle Coral.  It didn't give enough shine so I applied Inka Gold Old Gold with my fingertip.  Now it really shines :)

The black filigree piece at the bottom is black craft foam that was cut with the Spellbinders Garden Weave die.  The crinkle ribbon was dyed with a combination of Squeezed Lemonade and Vintage Photo Distress Stains.

That will do it for this challenge.  I hope you will drop by Frilly and Funkie to check out the team's inspiration samples.  And please do think about joining in our challenge.  It's a judged challenge and you could win a badge for your blog or be our random winner with a $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
